Hello and welcome to LifeGuard. In this video, we’ll cover Updating WordPress and show you how to do so automatically.

Updating WordPress automatically is without a doubt the easiest way to update. Before you update WordPress, be sure to backup your WordPress installation. If you don’t know how, be sure to watch our previous video: “Backups and Exporting”.

You’ll know you need to update WordPress because there will be a yellow bar across the top of your screen as well as in the bottom right corner, it will say “Get Version __(current version)__”. All you need to do is click on the “Please Update Now” link. On this page it will tell you what version you will be updating to as well if there are any plugins or themes that will need to be updated. Click on “Update Automatically” and you’re done!

Once the update has completed successfully, you can click “Go to Dashboard”. To check and see if a plugin is compatible with the latest version of WordPress, go to the “Plugins” Page. Click on the link “Visit Plugin Site”, and it will likely take you to a WordPress.org website. Look in the sidebar on the right for “Compatibility” – to check and see if the plugin is compatible with the latest version of WordPress
